Since Kotlin 2.0, the Kotlin Gradle plugin stores persistent project-specific data at the root of the project, in the .kotlin directory.

Kotlin is a symlink to Java, so the pull requests of github/gitignore is an update to Java or Gradle, and has not been merged since June or July of this year.
This is my first time contributing to this project and I'm not sure if the changes are appropriate. thank you <3
